It will be when the hedge comes down.

Fields are normally filled with sheep and cattle, added bonus. And the sun occasionally makes an appearance.

Great place for stargazing as well.

Would I be correct in thinking your oppo is a towny...? Why trash the hedge..?

Because he doesn’t give a shit about wildlife habitat, probably goes fox hunting as well.
If you must know, he is working in conjunction with the farmer (Flo) to ensure that the environmental impact is managed properly.

If he didn't give a toss it would have been out by now.

No need to let the facts get in the way when you can jump to conclusions instead eh.

How does that work then when they are removing wildlife’s home/shelter?
Ok you know best Derek, Flo obviously doesn't know anything about managing the countryside.

I'll have to telll her sheep and cows that next time I visit.

You never mentioned managing the Countryside you said “managing the environmental impact” IMPACT, the bombs on Hiroshima & Nagasaki had an impact, farmers destroying hedges have an impact, dress it up however you like if it eases your social conscience but ripping down a hedge will have an impact on wildlife however you manage it.

There you go again Derek.

Who said anything about 'ripping down a hedge'?

Um...you did. The phrase "when the hedge comes down" would seem to be self evident. If you were talking about trimming it then you would have said so.... ergo, the hedge is about to removed.
If your farmer has signed up to the Environmental Stewardship Scheme (e.g. the ELS) then I'd be surprised if she (?) would agree to the removal of the hedge as it's a) a natural field boundary and b) the ELS pays them to maintain hedgerows.

For years farmers were paid to keep fields empty of crops etc, some of these farmers got greedy & rented out their empty fields for horse grazing, as time went on the maintainence of these fields was ignored & ragwort grew, anyone who knows anything about horses will know that ragwort is very toxic to horses, some of these farmers couldn’t be arsed to dig up the ragwort so they put sheep in with the horses to eat the ragwort, the problem is that ragwort is just as toxic to sheep as it is to horses but the farmers couldn’t care less as long as they were getting a decent income from the horse owners & were being subsidised by the eec.
Some farmers even took payment from the local hunt to allow fox hunting on their land.
When money or self interest is involved farmers will do whatever & stick two fingers up to the environment.

You have just answered your own question Derek.

Facts are always good, eh?:devil-flip:

Managing the environment is a way of saying I’m pulling this tree down as it’s blocking the view from my new build house but I’ll take it down in a responsible manner which actually means responsible for removing wildlife’s habitat/ food etc.

I remember that wanker Alan Titmarsh felling a healthy veteran tree that was in front of his holiday home on the Isle of Wight, because it was spoiling his view.
