Headlight bulbs full beam

noobie

Clueless in most things
I currently have hid's 6000k on both the dipped and main beams. The dipped works brilliant, so much so that I rarely have to use main in my every day riding.

Looking back, the only time I can recollect using main beam has almost always been to quick flash someone, which of course hid's are pretty useless at. So I am now going to take the hid kit off the main beam and replace it with a normal bulb.

I've seen led's being mentioned but for the use it has, I feel the standard type bulb is more than good enough. However, has anyone changed a headlight bulb for another standard type but chose one of these "brighter" bulbs ?

I believe the standards are 55w but have some aftermarket ones are 100w's. Anyone any ideas?

Folk have found that if you precharge ( by turning it on for a few seconds until it gets up to full brightness ) the HID ballast when you first start up, that will allow 'the quick flash' for ages afterwards !

A fair few of us have now gone the LED route in the main beam on and around the same brightness as the HID but with instant on/off ideal for the main.

Ramo and Cyclops on here did the ground work for them and we ended up with these

they have the removable fan to aid installation on the Bird as its a little tight for space with the fixed type and you cant get them in ...

Tried and tested all last year I have them on my Bird and my Yam TDM,
The ballast is smaller than HID as well. I will be be putting them in the low beams as well when the HID dies...

Dont go back to a bulb  youll think youve gone blind
