I started the day with my normal rendition of Flower of Scotland.

Every year on St George's day a group of my colleagues including a senior manager dress as crusaders & usually venture round the hostelrys of Wakefield, this year they have changed the venue to Benidorm.
I don't think any of them actually know what the crusaders were about if they were to suddenly find out I think they would be deeply embarrassed.

We should never be embarrassed by history...what's done is done.
We should learn from it so that the bad stuff that was done then isn't repeated.

Unfortunately the reality is..... you've got more chance of seeing Elvis down your local chip shop..... :BangHead:

I agree however it is deemed poor taste to attend fancy dress parties as Hitler etc so is it appropriate for Prison staff to dress as a group of racially motivated murderers?

Depends on who's at the party.... Not all of the crusades were against muslims. Several were enacted in parts of northern and north eastern Europe. e.g the Slavs.

Bit of a moot point anyway. St. George.....or the nearest real life individual who could be said to be the real St. George....lived well before the time of the Crusades.
