Hi peeps, (Moderator's) Two questions. 1) Is there a "Grant" as well as a" Taffy " on this forum, who might be able to help me with some downpipes ? 2) Why do I need to pay for the privilege of getting this information, when I don't pay on any other forum ? Regards, Len W.

Don't recall a Grant but could be wrong, if you pay the sponsorship fee you'll be able to see a list of members.
The fee is well worth the money as the advice will save you much more than you pay.

Hello Len, again. You don't need to pay if you can find the same information free on other sites. As you may have noticed we have no adverts to pay for this site. Our site is run by Jaws who is almost certainly the world's leading expert on the Bbird. I jest not. He set up this site out of his own pocket and he is not a rich man. The measly amount we pay, barely, if at all, covers the cost. Most of us on here know one another personally having met up on Bashes and rideouts. We allow non payers a few questions for free and if they choose to become a part of our site we welcome them and will share the extensive group knowledge. If they choose to move on in the hope they will get something for nothing elsewhere they are also welcome to do that. I suspect for yourself it is time to piss or get off the pot. Your decision. PS I do seem to recall a "Grant" on here or on our previous incarnation.

Len, the information found on this forum has been accumulated the hard way over 20 odd years of blood, sweat and graft. There is no better repository of knowledge on the Blackbird to be found anywhere. Period.
There are members on here who could teach Honda a thing or two about the Bird.

But this forum, unlike many others, goes well beyond that. The help that you will receive (with a libereral sprinkling of piss take) as a forum member goes well beyond just a few words of advice on how to maintain your Bird.
£5.50 is a very small price to pay for that.

The guy who runs this independent site is Pcertsinly not getting rich on it - as far a son i a man aware the msponsorship doesn't quite cover the costs at the moment. There is a long history of how the site ended up being 'independent' - but even when it was part of the 'Bikers Oracle' group a small membership fee was payable to cover the costs if you wanted access to the goldmine of information.

It's not a commercial enterprise, more of a site for those with particular interests and a depository for a mass of technical information and the experience of a zillion miles and years of Bird ownership.

It is up to you whether you think it is worth joining. I sold my last Bird about two years ago (thank heavens(y)) and I still hang around here and sponsor as a) I (probably misguidedly) think I have some knowledge that I happilly share to keep other members on the road, and b) the help I got from this site when I was stupid enough to ride Birds over a number of years and many, many miles paid for itself many, many times over. And it is a good place to take the pee.

The best solution either way is to get a car. So much better in every way.

If you don't think it's worth a few pounds ........ I could be rude.
It always amuses me how people I come across can spend any amount of money on beer and fags etc but when it comes to something useful ......

Hi guys, Firstly, Sorry if I've offended anyone, over the sponsorship ( joining ) fee. Also I've been riding both F.I. & carb'd birds, (& other bikes), for the last 25 years or so. So, with the experience gained riding & fettling, I like to pass on any advice, hoping to help a fellow biker. And gratefully receive (useful) advice, from my own enquiries. Regards, Len W.

He's a bit of a curmudgeon. Having said that, that could be a requirement of the forum :)

Hi Len I'm glad to see you paid up as a sponsor, you will soon find that the help you receive for that few quid will be well worth it

Also I understand the question about paying, this is the only forum I pay to sponsor & I did that when it went independent well after my bird was long gone because simply because of all the help, support & good deals I have had through the forum particularly from the man himself (jaws)

I doubt you will have given offence to anyone as it is a fair question ............... as you can see you usually get a fair answer too :D

You admitting to something :D

I'm admitting after many decades of hard slog that I am now in a position where I have nothing else to gain by looking for a win win, so I am able to speak freely. Some may call that gumpy c*nt itus, If that's what they want to call it, I'll wear that badge :)
