If you want this to be taken seriously, which it should be, maybe it would be best to stay focussed and cut out the bollocks. It's for a good cause and it gets rid of you for a while.

Sucessfully complete?

Successfully complete?

Of that there is no doubt Lumps

Little point in "racing and chasing" if, after all the hard work of getting there, the bike is binned on the first day - besides the contract that I've signed and agreed to states that if anything happens and the bike is beyond sustainable repair, the onus is on the rider to replace at their own cost........

Then you find out that in Africa, you can only get 3rd party insurance  d34l  d34l  so I aint gonna be forking out for a new one!!! [cyclops mode off]

8 consecutive days following in a Chelsea Tractor is aint gonna be!!

Apathy? Possible but "Nil Carborundum Illigitemi" as the saying goes

fair point but it's already gone the way of so many useful threads on here and the penny pinchers aren't sponsoring anyway at the moment. The serious ones that would sponsor will NOT read all this drivel before doing anything, and I imagine the general response of apathy is all you should expect. Obviously ?1 out of their budgets is too much, even though most owuld look to buy cheap oil and brakes etc. to save a bit more. Cynical yes. Realistic Yes. Sorry mate, this may have to reappear la the day, after the Pagan festival that is Christmas. I for one look forward to you doing this, hopefully successfully, and even if only for peace and quiet, others should too. Gotta be worth a quid or 2 surely.
Perhaps it might help attract donations if the guys doing this state how much they are putting into it? Is their donation covering the costs of their flights, accomodation etc?

I am not suggesting this is the case, but it might appear to some that they are being asked to fund a holiday...

Holiday?

FFS !!!

Holiday?????????

I'd much rather be spending 2 weeks in the Bahamas with my wife and family

The "adventure" is a high profile "payback" for 12 months of hard graft - fundraising - at our own expense - to provide the motorbike for the Health Workers and fund running costs for 12 months

Being a one-man-band self employed type chappie, I'll lose 2 weeks earnings as I'll have to close my business whilst I'm away

I've already coughed up ?500 out of my own pocket and if fund-raising doesn't meet the required minimum..... I'll have to pay the balance out of my own pocket - which I'm quite prepared to do should the need arise

We are planning a series of fund-raising events [including a Charity Rock/Blues Gig in Spring 2008] - all events will be based down here in Tenby - you're all very welcome to come and see for yourselves [as well as enjoying a couple of beers]. I'll post the dates once they have been confirmed

For a start......... I'll be fundraising by taking part in the Boxing Day Swim in Tenby...me and 600 odd other fund-raising lunatics.......freezing cold sea.... hungover ....and a fooking good chance of hypothermia - but it's all in a good cause so on with the Speedo's..... and run like fook!

Holiday?

Yeah - right!!

So... I'll look forward to your donation Lebowski :yo:

Sorry to have annoyed you, I was only trying to help?

I have experience in fund raising, charity work etc. and I know how important it is to be 100% clear about the costs involved. Otherwise, unfortunately, some folk will just assume you are on a jolly and therefore won?t put their hand in their pocket.

These days people are becoming more and more suspicious of fundraising events and so like to know just how much of their money actually reaches it?s intended target.

Like I say, only trying to help you, perhaps I should have worded it better.

Good luck.

My donation? I have just donated direct to Born Free.

Not annoyed mate

Not annoyed at all - fully appreciate where you're coming from

I guess in a world suffering from Charity-Overload, people may be sceptical

This isn't however "Cheque Book Charity" - this is physically doing something to help unborn nippers [hopefully] enjoy a better life through no fault of their own

Sure it will be an adventure with memories that will live forever - certainly aint going to be a "breeze" though - we've got a hard 12 months fundraising ahead of us

Cheers mate :)

This came as a mighty surprise as it took a bit of finding who had donated this "substantial" amount

Makes you feel it's all suddenly very worthwhile - thank you

Will drop you an email seperately

If you're thinking of doing it - just do it - book it for 2009 as 2008 I believe is now full - I was VERY apprehensive to start off with but the reaction that we're getting locally and wordlwide is amazing and it really gets under your skin

We've now organised the Boxing Day Sea Swim [fooking freezing] - in speedo's  [no webcams thank you LOL] under local sponsorship FFS

We've also organised a fund-raising rock and blues gig in April down here in Tenby with 3 very good local bands - once we've got the final details sorted - all will be cordially invited down here - I'll even buy the first beers! Should be quiet a night!!

We need to make an interim "Stage Payment" of ?1000 soon to EnduroAfrica the organisers and charity fund holders] so any more donations would be very gratefully received

Thanks
