Hi Guys.
It must be my old age but there is something I don't understand.
While watching the WSB yesterday Ducati said they want to increase their engines to 1200cc so they can be competitive, I'm not sure about that as they are winning both the BSB and WSB on Ducatis already.
So my point is if they want to increase to 1200cc, what will they do then if the Moto GP will run on only 800cc next year?
Will they pull out of GPs or have I missed something.

Cheatin buggers! I can't see how they should be allowed extra cc's just because their bikes aren't powerful enough!

Whatever next, rollerskates for slow runners?

According to MCN, they tested the 800 GP bike at Mugello last week and will do a full launch at next months Mugello GP, so you'll get a chance to see it with your own eyes Paul. The increase to 1200 seems to be associated with cost as much as anything else; apparently the existing engines require regular complete re-builds whereas the 1200 variants will require fewer re-builds in line with the straight four engines.

Hiya
So with all the money they will save not doing all those rebuilds will they give the savings back to the Ducati customer by reducing their bike prices to about 1/6p.
ah, I see the plan now...., best get me name down quick!

seems to me

Ducati thought they couldn't compete with the suzukis & hondas & yams in the WSB so they chucked the dummy out of the pram and wanted a 1200cc engine.
Now they have a rider that can actually ride the phooker (Troy Bayliss) seems it is actually competative.

If they let them increase to 1200cc it will become the Ducati cup again,, & that ain't good for racing IMHO.

Troy bayliss must be a god,,, riding a duke like he does d04l1ng man8um

I hope so Paul. TBH, I'm thinking of chucking in the Fazer for a 999 and using the Gixer for commuting & TD's, but might have to wait 'till after a certain little event takes place this side of Christmas :-:

My understanding of it is this; WSB is where the manufacturers showcase their roadbikes, and we all know that all the latest Jap in-line fours will stomp all over the best Ducati in road trim. They are much more powerful and much quicker too.

The only reason that Ducati is still able to win races is because they are allowed to do more things to tune their engines than the Japs. According to Ducati, this in turn creates huge expenses in tuning/engineering work, plus greater frquency of engine rebuilds. Oh, plus their traction control is teh best out there and they've got a couple of bloody good riders at the moment leading the way. Their 'second' riders - Lanzi and Haslam - are both behind Jap bikes in their respective championships.

So, to reduce racing costs they want a 1200 which can be raced with the same/similar restrictions to the Jap bikes. The 1200cc road version of the bike would then be able to compete with the Japs on the road with room for future enhancements, whereas Ducati say the roadbike has come to the end of the road as far as tuning goes without compromising reliability (any more than they already have!)

Personally I don't give a damn, as long as the state of tuning of the 1200 is kept in check. I reckon this year is the closest it's ever been, Ducati only where they are by having the best riders to keep their necks above water.

Hi Guys.
Italian 1200cc against 1000 japs? Not exactly 'Even Stephens' is it? As Cruser has said the Italians already have more concessions as it is.
I think if the limit is 1000cc it should make no difference if it's got 1 piston or 79 pistons, everyone should be able to do what they want to do within the parameters.
A question though....Will Lavilla join Troy at Ducati next year in WSBs, a tasty thought?
Chris Walker must be hanging on to his WSB place by just a thread as well!

Cant remember Ducati moaning all them years that the 750 fours were stretched to there expensive limits just to stay slightly competitive with the 1k twins .... ie Ducatti cup..

Chris Walkers Suzook comes to mind when it let go at Donni and gifted Hodgeson the title.... year 2k i think..

WSB and BSB is supposed to be about racing bikes that you can buy in the showrooms, race kit them up and off you go.. IE the Kawa's, still had the ignition keys in for the first 3 rounds ffs...

there is only 8, FO6 Ducatti's in the world ... one off specials that cost a fortune each, 4 in BSB and 4 in WSB .. now how can they be within the rules as they stand ????? The rules will allways favour the Duc's because the own WSB and it stinks..
They are having to race in the AMA tho on a level playing field and they cant hack it..

If they want to bring costs down ..build a four :tosser:
