Ducati multistrada 1000, any experience?

Another of my "what other bikes have you tried" questions

I'm aware 2003-2004 was in the original form then the 2005/2006 model got more comfort and some changes before the upgrade to 1100

So, have you ever ridden, owned a multistrada 1000 and what was your opinions?

Err...yes h1d1ng2 have had 2. :-0)

Had an 1100s and a 1000s, when they go, they go great...problems usually occur with the electrics, make sure you budget for new belts as well at service time.

Riding wise, very much with your head over the top of the bars, not that comfy and terrible on the motorway due to turbulence. On A roads and down the lanes great fun and very light and nimble with a nice soundtrack.

Worst seat ever; it irks me that with so many bikes these days you need to by the 'comfort seat upgrade' to get something that is comfortable to ride all day. Are modern bikes only intended to pose to the nearest café???

I tested the original multi-strada 1000 when it came out and couldn't wait to give it back, I tested the new 1200 model too in 2011, was given as hour to ride it but was back in the shop after 40 minutes.

To ride? Awesome engine, though I did seem to hit the rev limiter too quickly (guess I'm just too addicted / used to high-revving fours) gearbox was reasonably slick for a V-twin (which are always clunkier than multis), phenomenal brakes; for the height of it, it handles really well but, that seat! I'm not a large person (5'6"] but the front of the pillion seat seemed to sit up against my coccyx and was uncomfortable. It may well be a personal thing, there are a lot of people who like them. Having said that, in my experience, there are a lot of people who'll spend 10K or 15K+ on a bike, tell you how fabulous it is then sell it three moths later ("Oh, It just wasn't me" etc etc).

Comfort, ergonomics, are a very personal thing; These new Dukes are a lot more reliable than old ones, (but still cost a lot more to maintain / service) but aren't up to Jap bike standards. I guess the electronics package might seem attractive, and in the end, it is the most important questions as with any bike: what floats your boat and what traits are you willing to put up with to own it?

I know in the 2005/6 models the seats were restructerd to offer more comfort. The belts thing on Ducati's always made me ponder whether it was a joke. Looking at them they see the same thickness and nearly the same width as cars belts but cars are upto 80,000 miles?
