Downpipes

noobie

Clueless in most things
With a carbie, the logical step as the down pipes rot is to go to the fi downpipes because they flow better? but more importantly are stainless?

But most of the later ones I've been looking at 99-2001 (so pre cat) if they are stainless then most look rougher than my mild steel carbie pipes

If bird ones are not an option, have we any recomended aftermarket down pipes?

I know to avoid delkovic downpipes but any others that would be a good fit?

Or if the pipes are in good condition is it worth removing them, brushing them down then heat painting them?

I had this same issue a couple of years ago on my carbed bird. I had welded the original pipes and collector box on numerous occasions but they were eventually shot. I ended up buying a used Akrapovic full system for ?200 from ebay. I had to remove the centre stand though, but the weight of the old system and the stand was quite substantial, and the single pipe exhaust on the new 4-2-1 system looks and sound pretty good to be honest.

I bought a stainless downpipe from Motad when my carbie bird needed a replacement a few years back. Although it was stainless, it wasn't polished but as it's hidden under the fairings, I wasn't too bothered about that.

Fitted with no issues and was a reasonable price (although they've gone up since). Didn't notice any difference in performance from the Honda original (except a little quieter).
