I'm not really doing it for the money mate its more a hobby I can do when I feel well enough & in my own time but I have made a few quid off them, getting engines for very little money is the biggest problem I have at the moment

Stools go for between 30 & 50 quid depending on how they turn out & if the tops swivel, the bench went for 100 to a mate but I'd been offered quite a lot more, I'd be happy if the coffee table went for around the same price

I'm yet to sell any of it myself, I just keep dumping it at a mates house & he usually gets rid fairly quickly, I left 2 stools last Friday & suspect they will be sold when I go again this Friday :D

Good prices..! Maybe you could post pics of the next lot. (y)

I've met some of your colleges, and they don't seem as bad as that.:rolleyes:

I see the spelling standard has slipped while I’ve not been around !!

Which colleges are these Robbo??
Eton? Harrow?

I’m guessing you meant ‘colleagues’ ?

If standards have slipped (and they have) then AB's at fault as he's Master of the Universe these days....

I seem to recall that cam and crankshafts have very little strength 'end to end'. And are prone to shattering if force applied to an end.

You might want to have a crack at breaking one then ;) even better have a go at welding one its a lot more difficult than you may imagine due to the case hardening

I have a vague recollection of someone telling me that if you drop a cam or crank shaft on its end it is likely to shatter? Old wives tale??

I do know that when removing the valves from an Avenger Tiger head one of the collets is guaranteed to fly off into the corner of the shed, never to be seen again. One day job turned into a three week job while waiting for the part from a Chrysler dealer.

In all my years of messing with engines I have seen one sheered cam & that was on a chinky 125 a couple of years ago, even then I doubt the cam itself was at fault originally as the rest of the engine had done a pretty good grenade impression

I have had to pretty brutal with the hammers etc on occasion when making stuff out of cams & cranks but haven't managed to break one yet, a lot of the time I will weld something then sling it out of the door onto concrete to cool & don't appear to have damaged anything yet either so yes I'd say its an old wives tale, at least with fairly modern stuff
