My tightwad employer has just announced a change in mileage rates for using your own vehicle on company buisness, now I always insist on a hire car as I aint going travel to some god forsaken end of the country on my bike with all my gear etc.

Looking at the figures I can help feeling they dont understand the cost of running a bike. A car user gets 32.5p per mile but a only 21.5 for a bike. For me it has always worked out more expesnive to run the bike compared to the wifes 1.4 run of the mill car.

Any views ?

The only time I ever had to make a site visit and they let me go on the bike, they paid me car rates. It was a bit of a jolly down the A47 to leicester from here. I think I made about ?10 out of it.

It's crap to pay out less for a bike, unless it were a 250cc or smaller. I could probably borrow my girlfriend's 125 suzuki but it's small and yellow.

The prison service pay 40p per mile for maximum car rates they try to get away with 24p per mile which is what they class as public transport rates
I think they pay about 21p per mile for bikes rates.

Although I probably break even on cost, I would rather be my own master than the victim of public transport

Revenue allows 40p per mile for cars for first 10K miles per year 25p for all miles above 10K

Bikes 24p per miles (unlimited) brok3
Bicycle 22p - they say it is an incentive to 'be green'.
96 miles per day commute on a bicycle - they are having a joke.

two years ago my company refused to let me use my bike to deliver 6 toy polar bears "they would fit in a rucksack" they gave me a long wheelbase transit and had me go from Wakefield to Ripon, Thirsk and Harrogate to deliver the feking bears!! :bang: it cost em the hire charge for the van and 40ltrs of fuel!! plus it cost em a days wage as I wasnt doing "my" assigned job,!! :dunno: middle management eh?? :wank:
