Just booked four nights in Amsterdam in April for us and three other couples.

Any thoughts as to what we should do to entertain ourselves?

This might be interesting...

Beautiful city. What surprised me is the red light district isn't a district as such but more shops/houses either side of one canal with little offshoots often going to "coffee houses" if you want to go looking down them side streets be a bit careful as they are not as safe as they used to be. The city itself though has great shopping, many historic places to visit. You can use the public transport system that is similar to the oyster card called the OV-chipkaart which can be hourly or daily https://www.ns.nl/en/travel-information/traveling-with-the-ov-chipkaart

Plenty of good restuarants, quick food places and historic buildings, even some theatres. Dutch learn English as a second language at school so it's widely spoken,

Heineken factory tour is very good, plus you can get a free canal trip to and from the factory. Flower Market is a pleasant walk, Gauchos Argentinian Beef restaurant is great, theres two in Amsterdam, you may need to book. There was a 2 hour queue both times we went to see Anne Franks House so we didn't bother, a walk around the red light district is a must. We hired a boat too one time was funny as we didn`t sink but not for the faint hearted with all the canal traffic. Behind the Central Train Station is a Wharf where there are a series of free walk on ferries that link the various sides of the river, do a little homework and explore outside the center. Theres a lot of development in one area, restaurants, galleries etc, can`t remember the destination name but if you have your back to the station its the last one on the left.

This was the view from my cabin when we docked in Amsterdam back in October. Overlooking the Central station.

The reason I mentioned it is because I saw this place on the way in which is about half a mile from the Cetral Station
