Camping in France??

How would i go about finding a Campsite that would cater for a bike in France? am thinking of doing a mini tour, just to get the feel of the place, poss with a mate on another bike, and would want to stay one night at a time in various locations in Northern France, is camping advisable/safe. Hotels are OK, but I (Being a worrier) would worry (Told you!) about the bike being secure.

Any help would be very much appreciated. w;;v

Campsites

Codbasher don't worry mate every campsite that I have ever stayed on in France has been Biker Friendly no probs with having your bike right outside your tent door. Most of the hotels are about the same especially the B & B group they have always tried to allocate a room on the groundfloor for us if possible, having said that the gates are locked at night and access is vie a code system, usually your room code so peoples vehicles are fairly secure anyway.

Hope this helps R#?

Cheers mate,

Would there be a book or something that would be worth getting, with locations of sites, phone numbers and if they speak English etc, would be going in the Spring possibly, and really dont want to set an itinery, just travel the roads and doss down at night (Adventurer in me coming out) And would like to stay with the smaller sites rather than the bigger commercial ones.:yo:

Try "Alan Rogers" books, sell them at Smiths, Waterstones etc. They visit all their featured sites on a very regular basis and give you precise info like "27 toilets in 3 well spaced blocks, 6 of which are 'hole in the ground', 10 are normal but seatless, the remainder being standard units" There is a website and will edit it in, in a minute or two! www.alanrogersdirect.com - there you go!

Every reasonably sized place (not only 'tourist' places) has a 'Camping Municipal' and you could do much worse than most of these - they have to keep up to a standard, and the standard is pretty damn good, but don't have eg flash swimming pools and restaurants. So if you are not looking to spend your holiday AT the campsite, much more than adequate.

The signposting is excellent in France for both hotels and camping - in fact all facilities - prepare to be impressed!

Cheers chaps,

:yo:

Will start to do a bit of research, anyone have any areas of Northern France say 300 miles from Calais that would be worth a day or so's riding around, photogenic, quiet with nice roads, really do not want any Motorway riding, just a nice gentle tour around.

Cheers.

camping in france

:lick: camping in fance! what could be easy
Better sites, standards, scennery, roads etc etc etc.
a safe bet (even more so if alone) try the Municipal campsites, there are 100s all over france, are of good standard and secure.for the best advice, i always go to the Maison de France (french tourist board in london and they have their own website)
all the info you could want is there
also request the 'Bison Fute' Road map (either by phone or by website) you can also get info on places towns etc etc
if your looking for good roads in france this map has them (all the routes in green on the map).
personally i havn't found that many special roads in northern france, although normandy is nice and flat with tree lined roads.
Once you get either past, Paris Or Reims, motorcycle heaven.
the ride from Reims to Dijon is excellant plenty of Bison Fute(scenic routes).
from chartres to Tours, Le blanc, Clermont ferrand, "Oh Baby"
mind you not in 1 day.
the region of Avyergne, and the Rhone is esecially good for bikes

So take the plunge and you will never look back.
