Buell based Custom - Sophie Lancaster Tribute

As a result of this thread I have learned about Sophie Lancaster.

Big @tu* for what you are doing Gothicsera.

I'm pleased you took the time to look it up. Her mum does great work with kids and police forces across the UK and deserves all the support she can get.

I hope that I'll be raising money for them in a serious way next year.

I think I've sussed your secret.

If you look closely at the pic of you and your Bird, the lettering on the bike is back to front.

Clearly you are in fact from a parallel universe where everything is back to front and women know stuff and men don't.
Those of us who are awestruck by your superior mechanicing skills can all rest easy knowing that you will soon return to that world and leave us saddo's to polish our Birds in peace. :-0)

Obviously AndyBirdless will be heart broken but, hey....we can live with that. 8rfl@

Selfie cam.... but I prefer your explanation... I'm outta this world.... gr0n:

Are you keeping the flat handlebars?

I fitted to my fat bike before some Jones's H bars http://www.jonesbikes.com/h-bar/

or have the flat bars been measured so they fit your stance/height/reach?

Yes the flat bars are perfect for my reach and a comfy seating position. The idea behind this bike is something fairly stripped down/simple that I can have a bit of fun on around the twisty roads as well. :)

I know this is going to sound cheesy, Sophie's hair was black and red. you mentioned about keeping the bike simple, would a black paint job with red pinstriping with the Sophie logo either on the sides of the tank of on the rear mudguard. ?

The most iconic photo is black/red, but there's also black/green and black/purple too.

The paint is going to be Midnight Purple (google Nissan Midnight Purple) with some black graphics... I'm kinda keeping it under wraps until it's done @tu*

Spent most of today filling and sanding all of the tin work for the bike. Rear fender took the most work, and there's still a bit more to do, but I find it easier to work off the epoxy primer as a base. I also re-shaped the front fender so that fits much better now.

Gave everything a couple of liberal coats of Lechler 2k epoxy, it'll be ready for more work tomorrow...

I also finally got around to making the brake/tail light lens which fits in the rear edge of the back fender. Still need to fit the LED's in it, but it's shaped and polished up.

I replaced a bit of Skirting, spent ages preparing a newly plastered archway for painting (amazing how new plaster can look really good until natural sunlight hits it), gave six metres of oak worktop a light sanding before applying a thin coat of Danish Oil, fed the cat three times and gave him two doses of eye drops, Had leftover shepherds pie for dinner and then had to endure Strictly as the mrs wanted to watch it and I couldn't be bothered voting with my feet. I ordered two exterior lights on eBay while it was on.

Have you made a decision on the marriage question yet?

The lens has come up well, will be interesting to see how the paint goes on.

Is that perspex or similar? You should be able to tap a thread direct into it, rather than use a threaded ferule.
Would be more aesthetically pleasing, to my eye, to see the thread form in the lens.
Bloody good work, though.

Yes it's perspex. I didn't want to tap straight into it as it would be easy to rip the relatively small threads out of it.

I still have a bit of work to do, but I think once it's finished and the lens has been tinted you wont be able to see the inserts anyway... I'm going to paint the outside edges of the light the same colour as the rest of the bodywork, the LED's are only in the centre between the 2 ferules.

I did a bit of painting today and got the front mudguard in base coat and clear. Just need to wet sand and buff it now.... a job for during the week.

I also had a play around with the graphics, but I wasn't happy with how they turned out, so back to the drawing board on that one.

Ok, fair enough. I presumed you were leaving it clear, using red led's.

I am using red LED's - but I'm going to black out the lens so it disappears into the back edge of the mudguard :)

First panel is painted, flatted, polished and fitted....It's really dark, almost black in the shade, but shines purple in the sun. I'll be doing the oil tank tomorrow, then I can finally assemble the electrics and do the oil plumbing.

All of the other panels have some graphics to do so they will be going to the painters at some point (arty stuff isn't my strong point!)

I also made the instrument bracket and fitted some new throttle cables (GSXR ones were just the right length)

So you don't class what you are doing as art!

ps. You really need to get your nails done! :-0)

That's coming along nicely, good work. Have you any plans for the yoke? At the moment it looks like a big slab of ali at a time where your tin work seems to be blending the bikes pieces together?

I'm getting on with a few bits here and there among working 70+hours a week and also finishing a guy's Camaro off for him....

I painted the oil tank the other day but wasn't happy with how it turned out, so flatted it all off again and will repaint it next weekend.
