If you plan on dying, Bournemouth. If you like the military...Poole.

Me! beat me to it..
Personally I prefer Poole.. Quite interesting places to mooch around...

But then, if I was going to somewhere on the south coast that did not involve Cornwall I would proly go to Brighton.
Love walking round the 'Lanes' and the Royal Pavilion

My daughter is at University in Bournemouth so over the past 4 years or so we have spent quite a bit of time down there for the occasional break here and there.

Bournemouth is actually quite nice if you want a decent beach, but public parking is horrendously expensive. Parking for just a couple of hours just to go and have something to eat can cost close to £10

The Seaworld type place is good fun

There is however a very good choice of accomodation at reasonable cost and we now find it easier to leave the car at the Hotel and get a Taxi.

From a what to see point of view, other than above, Poole is probably a better bet, even maybe Swanage for the steam railway, Swanage castle, Bovington Tank museum, and there is a nice fish and chp shop on the quay side in Swanage. Weymouth might be a better option.

I would suggest Brighton, but I have to spend quite a bit of time down there with work and it is another horrendously expensive place to visit.

As a completely left of centre thought, if you are going south, what about the Isle of Wight?

Lots to see, my mate Paul organises a big bike night once a month at his training centre at Newport Football club when in excess of 500 bikes turn up and it is not that expensive.

Food for thought?

Poole is the best bet of the two as it is slightly further away from me. x

Yes but as neither I, Andy or his long suffering other half would go there for sexual reasons I don't think that really matters :)

This will surprise you john - I attended the Pride event in Brighton last year and it was great fun.

Just a lot of people enjoying themselves

Brighton is close to me - we have jumped on the number 12 bus to get there for very cheap late booking short breaks a number of times; a fantastically lively place, even us old uns can enjoy it!!

Thanks for all the above. Appreciated.

We have booked into.....on the recommendation of a friend.........drum roll...........

Langtry Manor was built in 1877 by Edward VII for his mistress Lillie Langtry. It was an extremely elegant and luxurious home and served as their hideaway and love nest. Following substantial re-development the Hotel is now one of Bournemouth’s finest and most welcoming hotels.

Plan to go to Poole on day 1, then back to Bournemouth for hotel for a couple of days.

Just need to sort out a hotel in cologne for the week before Xmas - fights booked with Stobart Air from Southend

Don't forget my stick of rock:besos:
It is foremost in my mind.

Pretty much everything closed down here waiting for the school holidays.

Perfect.

Never realised what a beautiful beach is here - six miles of golden sand. Lovely.

She lived on Southampton during the 2nd world war. In UK most of her life. Nursed war wounded for some of the time, probably WW1.b 1888. Sidcup was one location.
She had a selection of basket weave chairs which I think were made by soldiers. I still have a plate stand for 3 plates standing on floor.

Never really spoke about it.

Went past Sandbanks while on a boat trip round Poole Harbour.

Fifth most expensive place to live in the world, apparently.

Lovely views both front and back.

But why would you pay three to nine million £s for a property that is crammed onto its plot and overlooked by both neighbour's?
