quick scan on an A4 cab sees around 600-700 new and second hand comes between 250-450 on ebay

I hate to be pedantic 8rfl@ but that isn't what you said on your first post
I have just put the hood down for the first time this year on the wife's Audi cabriolet and it has feckin split right in the middle. Cross shaped split about four inches square. Anyone dealt with this before.
Have you tried any local coach trimmers to see if they can help by replacing just the window?
Until then I would use heli tape, still clear but tough enough to last till you've got something sorted.

My bad, I thought most knew of Heli tape
You know when cars have a clear substance say on heavy duty use parts like the front so have a clear heavy duty film which can be removed at any time but is quite a bit stronger than just duct tape. I use it always on the fork leg lowers to protect them
