since we have lived down here I have enjoyed having the local seagull population as co-residents, although a lot of the locals see them as vermin, albeit they are a protected species. Beautiful birds and masters of elegant flight.

Since being here we have fed the cat outside to keep the smell of the food away from the house.

This changed when a gull started helping himself to the leftovers, which developed into harassing the cat while he was eating. so we changed the routine - feeding the cat in the utility room and leaving the outside door open so the cat can get out when he was finished.

The gull then started coming in the utility room while cat was eating and actually fronted us up when we chased him out.

So the routine changed again, utility room door shut, window left open for the cat to get out.

    Gull beaten.

    So we thought.

Sitting here this morning with the French doors open in the lounge (that is on the other side of the house) the flipping gull marched in like he owned the place. And again got pretty aggressive when he was chased out.

    War has been declared.

Don't do this on your own, you'll need a wing man & be careful or you'll be up before the beak.

    Just how protected is it?

You could be over protective and shut the door once it goes into the utility room 'look after it' for a while. It would be unfortunate if it died in your care!

After all, it starts with one!

Seagulls, or shitehawks as we called them at sea, are easilŷ dealt with. Give them an alka-seltzer tablet wrapped in something tasty and then, once the greedy bastard has necked it, stand back and watch the fun.

I swear this is true - this afternoon Mrs A was clearing her shed out (a miracle in itself) - she hauled out a plastic storage box with a lid on that contains bird food - the little sod swooped down and started having ago at it trying to break in. How did it know??

Or Bi-carb on a slice of bread, squash it into a ball and then lob it into the air.

Alternatively.....bait 2 (or more if you like) fish hooks (connected by 10-15ft of fishing line) then lob into a crowd of gulls.

Sea fishing at Whitby I always take marmite sandwiches, I always make plenty so I can feed the seagulls as well, shame I don't get to see the redults

My shitty Samsung tablet is pissing me off, it puts letters in that are nowhere near the ones I have touched (although the above could be finger error) it is missing letters out & generally being a pain in the arse.

No sign of it today. Been drizzling all morning, I have been outside laying pavers, seagull must be a lightweight if it's not coming out in the rain.

    Two unnecessary words there.

    'Tool' would have sufficed.
