Can anyone please tell me what if any problems may arise from fitting standard Bridgestone 020 u rear tyres . I understand from some tyre place that the Blackbird has a specific type fitted 020 L .Any advise would be appreciated.

Well, the Blackbird 020 tyre is designed to cope with the power output of the bike. I suspect the ordinary 020 would not fair too well on the 'bird if ridden hard. JAWS will know the exact answer.

That's about right...... there is a difference with the construction of the sidewall on the Bird Specific ones, and I think on the front one the tread pattern is different in the centre of the tyre.

As you say, the rear has an "L" on the sidewall, the front has a "W".

try doing a search either on this forum or the help forum on "blackbird specific tyres" ... i think you'll find some interesting information about why the bird has a specific tyre.

i just can't remember what the exact facts were offhand sorry :bang:

As you proly already know, the BT020 squares off faster than a box of biscuits at the best of times ( due mainly to Bridgestone still clinging to 10 year old technology with dual compound tyres ! ) .. fitting the wrong version with ( as other quite correctly said ) the much softer side walls, the tyre will be well buggered by about 2 to 3 k miles max.. and during that time those nice flexible walls will be doing their best to squidge you off the bike as soon as they get nice and warm !
