Just the one then Pee Air?

errr... yes... why? Is there more grip with two? :dunno:
Now, seriously, I am being honest, I find them OK in the wet, yes they jump anf they slip sometimes on white markings, leaves, and greasy wet patches when leaning under 'positive' acceleration... but all tyres do that. Faulty batch is def a possibility, Pete offered to pay for the tyres to be shipped to him for him to test them and send to Avon for them to do a forensic on them, can't be fairer than that can it? And if they don't feel safe take them off for heaven's sake - I had non-specific 020 on my bird, after 2000 miles they started to feel REALLY twitchy and jumpy, well I took them off as I value my life to be more than the price of a pair of tyres - then again, each to their own init w;;v

Things have been getting a bit 'interesting' on this thread over the past few days. It's amazing how some people don't have the tyres fitted yet have a very strong opinion of how good they are - Bert, give it a rest mate.

The thing that's really pissed me off with this thread is that it was started out of genuine concern. All of a sudden those that have said they've experienced the same sort of problems are basically causing mass histeria, barstool heroes or incompetent riders. Absolute fucking bollocks. You wonder why some people sign up and disappear again - probably because they have an opinion and then get shouted down if a few disagree with them.

Pete - thanks for the offer of help and for the contact details at Avon. Hopefully I won't be needing either. If I do need some help then I'll give you a shout. Might get a chance to test them out in the wet again tonight on the way home. The clouds look as if they're gathering!

Late to the party....

Hi guys

Sorry but 18 pages is a little too much to read through the whole lot. In summary, I've got the forementioned Avon ST45/6(B)'s and had a couple of moments on wet/muddy/oily/pollished surfaces. Now I use my bike to commute so need to ride whatever the weather. Also I need the tyres to last at least 6K miles, so here is my plea - are there any better tyres than the Avons in the wet that will last the distance?

This has probably been said, so humble appologies :yo:

Cheers

What!

If that was aimed at me Bob, I'm just hearing tumble weed, if not then I'm not up with your joke having not read the previous 18 pages. Do you want to have a crack at my question, are there any better tyres in the wet than Avons 45/6ST(B) that will last 6K?

Dear Mr Tumble Weed

I wasn't aiming anything at anybody

I do think this thread has stimulated some very emotive nonsense, even drivel in some circumstances.....................

Unfortunately one man's meat is another's poison so - regretably there will be no definitive answer.

The answer, probably, can be found through personal experience - we all find out pretty soon if something works for us as each of our circumstances is unique.

Further to this I get 12,000 miles + out of my tyres - but - hey - thats me in my unique set of circumstances, some peeps only manage 3,000 miles...

What tyre do I use - why Avon's of course - I've never had a problem with them. There I've said it!

But you could always try 020's................................

Cool Bob

12k - impressed  . Well my previous set were Macadam 100s and they started going like a couple of eels strapped around the rims. I'm probably not getting that distance as I still in the wahoo stage when I get to some streatches of road, and the many full twist overtakes! As for the wet, I'll have to try and be a bit sweeter on the throttle to keep the shiny bits up.

umm

big debate ok my 2p worth,

I am not a fast rider and have the avons on they have boosted my confedence in the bike and yes i have speeded up using them, only once in the wet did i feel the back end slide and that was down to me going to over take hard just after a shower had stoped and the road was a little slippy, I would rate the avons 9\10 and in the dry 10/10

Everlasting.................

If this thread had tread

I'd put on me bike..........

cos its outlasting me tyres...........

To answer the original question they are most definately not crap.....
cos if they was I'd have fallen off dozens of times in the last two
month's, just a bit interesting in the wet, mine spun up at 130 in
the wet the other morning (to 160) (and yes I had time to look)
The dry weather feedback more than compensates for more caution
in certain conditions..............

Shit I'll prolly bin it now............. %$fan

Should I start on this one again or not?

I've had about a month of commuting to and from work at all times of day and night and all sorts of conditions. Are Avons crap or not - I would now have to say that they aren't crap, but they are fooking weird - mildly moist and is slippy sliddy time (I agree sometimes that is exactly what you want - before anyone else says it), then the following day water running across the road off the fields in a torrential downpour, and they stick like shit on fur!!

Think I've got used to them now, and at least you do get plenty of 'feedback'. One thing that I have noticed is that after all of the riding this year and the 'skills' day, I'm riding a lot quicker than I was last year, so perhaps that's why the bike has been squirming around a bit more :}
