Hi all you super-friendly-helpful Bird riders. i have a 97 bird 36K and again this year I will undergo a tour of Scotland in May and Alps in September. As this forum is my guide to all things Bird, I thought you may be able to offer some reassurance. As a believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" I would kindly ask: 1) Some radiator fins are well squashed but there is no overheating except in slow, queuing, town traffic when no air is flowing through anyway. Would it be advisable to change the rad'? 2) The bike sounds sweet and no particular rattles. At this age /mileage, would it be advisable to change the CCT or at least carry a spare just in case. I replaced reg/rec, rear shock, fork springs a couple of years ago from John so, done that. All other service issues are covered by me. Any further advice please. Kind regards

My experience (not necessarily advice!):

I went around France last year, 3000 miles with a rattly CCT, and a radiator that was in a bit of a state, through hot weather in the pyrenees, the Alps and in the south in general... Not a single issue to report!

That was 2 up and full of luggage, so not exactly taking it easy either.

Clueless in most things
Given what you've already replaced and as you say you've had no issues I would just use the bike as it is.

I might be tempted to do the cct but for no other reason than it's just one off the list rather than it's needed plus it's a 20 minute job.

Thank you for that. I had read that the CCT when changed are a bit unreliable or is that me mis-reading previous posts? Thanks again.

Come on you Hatters
Keep out of towns@tu*. Find the back roads round instead. no cameras, less police, much more fun than being stuck at walking pace in 30+ temps. :-0)

CCT change literally is a five minute job well worth doing for peace of mind before your run abroad, after all you have asked about it so it must be on your mind.
