Was riding with a small group of bikers the other day. I was riding with a pillion, the others were riding 1up. As I launched from an intersection, I unintentionally pulled a powerwheelie as I revved past 5000rpm in 1st gear. This of course never would have happened if it wasn't for my pillion. The front wheel probably went up about a foot or so, nothing dramatical about the incident.

Nevertheless, I'd really like to master the art of wheelies - WITHOUT a pillion.. Would be nice to be able to do a controlled powerwheelie through 2nd gear when coming out of a roundab.. I mean, on track days.. :-:

I know the bike is more than capable of it, so the limitations lies within me.. Problem is that I'm scared the bike might go all the way up - and then some more - and then I'll sit my arse on the road doing 50mph+ while watching me bird getting wrecked..

Just how much does it take to pull a wheelie and sustaining it through 2nd gear? Is there any trick to it?
