Err !! not everyone, thank you, :t the way I look at things is if people can give up there time to try and help others, you should at least appreciate that, :dunno: sometimes it may be a "little" off centre, but it can be used in conjunction with other ways of learning/teaching, and certainly any extra training shouldn't be "poo pood" out of hand, :dunno: just wish I could afford to go and do a couple of days with Bob, seriously,
sorry if Ive offended anyone with my personal view, :dunno:

Still kickin' it!
Go for the BEST...

Go to UK Advanced (run by serving police officers)

http://www.advanced-motorcycle-training.co.uk// and click on "Courses".

I did both "IAM" and "UK Advanced" courses last year and "UK" are streets ahead in terms of quality instruction and feedback, and you'll also receive a recognised vocational qualification at the end of the course, if you're sufficiently competent. I'm planning on doing the Instructor course - er - in due course!

IAM can't be faulted for enthusiasm - but professional, Grade 1 serving police officers have more than just an edge when it comes to instructing others how to ride competently and safely.

Financially it's a "dear do" - but what's your life worth?

Bloody hell Ian,this must be the most sensible you have been all year, all 3 day's of it. I agree totally with your sentiments, if the bike test is as good as the car test which I have done, then I would recommend it to everyone

Well I havn't sampled different groups but found the Derby group really good and managed to pass just before Christmas  . At the end of the day, they are only guiding you up to legal speeds and making sure you are observing everything around you so it's not a big deal really.

So for license keeping riding I have found the IAM in Derby to be spot on. But if you want to go further like getting your knee down, pull blackies out of corners, wheelies and stoppies, emergency braking from a ton etc then you need something else.

And because the IAM use volunteers then each observer will be different, shouldn't be but will because they are not getting paid, so different people will have different experiences from the same group. When I joined the Derby group the guy who allocated the observes said that if I and my observer didn't hit it off then I should just get back to him and he will appoint someone else. Hey it's cheep and convienient so that suited me fine.

Gotta go, my feng shui consultant is here.... :}

Following on from the comment "if you want to pull blackies, stoppies" etc.............Its not advanced training you require its a FUNERAL DIRECTOR!!!!! because it won't be long before your ready for him!!!!

I ride with Worcestershire Advanced Motorcyclists -the ONLY group to not only offer the standard training - but go on to offer a course called ADVANCED PLUS.

They will also train you to become an Institute recognised Senior Advisor.

...The main thing about bikes is that you can go to many different places to learn different skills I mean like DragStrips RaceSchools TrackDays RoadSkills StuntSchools OFFRoadin' an' evrythin' and you can learn about doin' it SAFELY an' PROPERLY an' that's what ANYBODY can do unless you've got one tit bigger than the other like Becky Lonsdale...

Find out what you want to do - then go and learn how to do it SAFELY in a way that suits your needs and your pocket.

That's all we're on about...OK?

Thanks

Many thanks for all your input, I've used all the links to check them out.

The iam appears to have coursed the most mixed views, is RoADA linked with iam as their costs are the same. I liked the concept of RoADA and the cost. I'm also currently following up UKadvanced. Bob's is a fair distance away. Also need consider the varying costs and benefits.

Thanks again, I let you know which I end up with.

RoADA and IAM are seperate organizations (RoADA being the older of the two) but they do work closely together, particularly now that senior IAM observers are allowed to to the RoSPA diploma course!
