Acetone in fuel

Following a thread started by Wolfie I did a bit of reading on the subject and decided to give it a go. The car I'm using is a Peugeot 406 1.8 petrol with 44000 miles on the clock. Over the past 13000 miles it has returned an average of 37.1mpg and has a 70 ltr tank so I added 175ml to the first fill up yesterday which is a 1 in 4000 mixture.

I then did 150 miles during the day, the engine appears to run no different than it did prior to adding the Acetone although I felt it did perform cleaner in the higher rev range than previous. That could be a placebo effect of course so I shall concentrate on the mpg improvement (if any) and report back to the forum with up to date effects whenever I fill up.

Further reading in:- http://pesn.com/2005/03/17/6900069_Acetone/

I wont be trying Acetone in my Thunderace mainly because it is an extremely effective paint stripper. Pouring liquids into the car filler neck is one thing but its more difficult with a horizontal fuel flap found on bikes.

works well in my van.

easy to start
smoother running,
15 -20 miles more to 20L
quicker response to the throttle

i added 1ml to 1L to start of with. am now trying a mixture of 50ml to 20L to see if it is better on worst.

Speaking of fuel consumption...

I have fitted Devil SB2 cans and a K&N air filter to my barge.... I am getting about 190 to200Km's (118 to 124miles) to a tank. In my opinion, I think that's wrong....

What are you guys getting on a full tank? Do you think adding a 1:4000 mix of acetone to the fuel will help the fuel economy on the barge?

the only reason i did not add it to the bike is that as the van is an old ford V4 engine in it it wouild be a damm sight easy to strip and rebuild if the acetone fecked something up.

when i have done a fair few miles in the van and tried it on the wifes car and i am happy with the results then i will chuck it in the bike.

Fair enuff Trotsky...... Good point!

But what are you guys normally getting to a tank on the barge? I feel that 118 miles is way too low...........!

The article I read does say that the older the engine technology the greater the improvement from using Acetone. One of the reasons I dont want to use it in the Ace (besides paint stripping the tank if I feck up and spill some) is that the tank range is just over 200 miles so it would mean fecking about with little bottles of Acetone on any decent run out. The Pug has a tank range of 550-600 miles so it only means carrying a small quantity in reasonable safety and I usually only fill up once a week.

Adam don't worry mate on my injection one I get anywhere between 90 miles per tank if I'm thrashing it and 140 on a long steady run. Toots gets 140 plus most of the time on her carbed one though. Which have you got? :dunno:

I have the 2002 FI model.............

I still think 118 miles is shite economy - and I can always smell that it's rich when idling....

Anyone know how I can lean up the mixture?

Mine has K&N, std silencers, iridium plugs on a 2000 EFI. I get however I ride it; 50 miles to start moving the gauge, 100 miles to 1/2 tank on gauge, 150 to red light. This is very consistant and works out on average from the odd thrash to cruising at 99.9999999 mph and occaisionally riding at direct to jail speed etc.

Average about 40mpgc7u8
