Dullville, dungville, whatever you want to call it.....

I’m a bit knackered joint wise these days and as much as I’m fond of the B.B. and will keep it, I need something to travel a bit of distance on. Pan too heavy, Varadero I can only just touch the floor and with a full tank it’s too heavy. I’ve been nosing at the Deauville..... yes I know it’s rep but it has to haul me 400 mile round trip every couple of weeks or so.... anyone owned or know of one...... has to be absolutely pristine.... or any other ideas. I have a few bikes but need a mile eater

Clueless in most things
Budget, low centre of gravity, eats miles, claimed 75mpg with upright styling, have you looked at the Honda NCX 700 ?

After a few years break from biking I bought a 650 Deauville new and put on 18000 miles in a year before I swapped it for a pre-vtech VFR. It performed faultlessly whether heavily loaded or solo and the only dull part of the bike was it's reliability. Not the most exciting bike but as a commuter to my office 60 miles away with a top-box and panniers loaded with files it was excellent. It did what it said on the tin and I'm sure the 700 would be just as functional and probably better.

I used a 650 Dullsville for bike training for a couple of years. Loved it.
Never going to impress in the speed trials, but capable of a steady 80+ for long trips.
Great fuel economy ( 60+) iand quite easy maintenance with a shaft drive.
Good storage (you can pick up the extra large pannier covers quite cheap).
The owners forum deauvilleuk.org is (was three years ago) very friendly and full of info about the bike, and parts availability.
Weather protection is quite good.
The swinging arm can suffer with rust on the top just behind the rear wheel. It has a flat plate that catches the crap off the wheel and rusts badly. If it has ANY sign or is recently painted, walk away.
Also the joint from the collectors on the exhaust is a weak point.

I'd have another... The 700 is better, but more cash for a slight upgrade

Cheers folks. Hundreds for sale, most seem to be corroded around front engine covers, didn’t ‘now about the swing arm pox, good call, thanks. Doesn’t have to be full of grunt just leisurely and able to tick the miles off without drama. Ta muchly. Bird will stay and may see occasional use...dare not sell as I’ll just buy another !

This is all part of my newfound retirement :zplayita:
