So The Trumpet thinks that the answer to school shootings is to arm all the teachers...

I think that conclusively proves that the NRA are actually part of the Jim Henson Studios.

I would say a village somewhere is missing an idiot, but......
He is not bright enough to get the job
I do however believe if he applied to be a shrubbery he MIGHT get it, providing there were no Rhododendrons in the running of course

I really cannot get my head round Trump publically calling the police officer involved in the Florida school shooting 'a coward'.

It certainly looks like he didn't do his job, but that is not the same as being a coward.

Looks like classic deflection technique to me - maybe the gun laws might have a bit more to do with it rather than the inaction of one officer?? Maybe the Right to Bear Arms is one that Trump doesn't think he can change so not even going to try as he doesn't want to be seen to fail. Other than giving teachers guns that is, a rather brilliant idea..

He wasn't a cop, more of a deputised security guard. If you ask me, those that are quick to judge have been watching far too many movies, tv series and computer games...including Trump.

Going toe to toe against someone armed with an assault rifle when you've only got a pistol is a tough ask for a security guard with basic firearms handling skills and if the rifle has been modified for full auto then the odds are heavily stacked in the shooters favour. The odds in their favour increase further as the engagement distance increases....5.56mm rounds will penetrate cover that would stop or severely degrade the lethality of 9mm or .45 rounds.
Also worth noting that most of these types of shooters carry an over abundance of rounds, whereas the guy with the pistol might have 1 mag in the weapon, plus 2 on his belt. He can therefore afford to expend large amounts of rounds to keep you suppressed while walking up to finish you off.

It's a rare thing for someone to stay focused and return fire effectively with a just a pistol against superior firepower. Invariably a win for the individual armed with the pistol is down to the fact that they are highly trained, whereas the gunman (or gunmen in one case that I know of) are poorly trained and opt for the spray and pray technique.

Well it seems Trump is being called out on his 'coward' comments. Wonder how he will spin this.

He also says (paraphrased) he 'would have run into the school himself even if he wasn't armed' which to me says a lot about him - he is either a reckless lunatic or a self publicist. Or....both.

In the interests of balance, I retract my comment above about the officer not doing his job - according to this report he did what he was trained to do.

Just read that the NRA contributed $30m to the Trump campaign.

No conflict of interest there then.

I am just off the the Alabama girl guides annual boot fair to pick up a used M16 assault rifle.......

And the genius is now talking about heavy import duties on steel and aluminium.

Anyone who has studied the global recession of the 1930s will know why this is a terrible idea.

Anyone who wants to know more search on 'Snoot Hawley'.

Memories are short, history never changes.

Ah, autospell strikes again, thank you!

Essentially America 'put America first' (sound familiar?) by taxing imports to an extortionate ter the localised US economic depression started by The Wall Street Crash.

The rest of the world suffered in terms of exports, retaliated by taxing Imports from America to a similar level and the whole trade system ground to a halt.

I can recommend a fantastic and very readable book on the subject, but can't get to it as the lounge carpet has just been professionally cleaned and is still, drying out!!

Let me know when you can get to it. It might come in handy to know what's going to happen next.... (history does tend to repeat itself, unfortunately).

So not only has the man proven he has the intellectual abilities of a goldfish, he has the memory on one as well.
It's an interesting subject john. Having worked in finance for 39 years as each new generation came through they all seemed to think that property and share prices just kept going up. When I explained it was cyclical they just glazed over....

The Great Crash by Selwyn Parker.

Nice to know there is at least one other intellectual on here:SimpHomer:

Forewarned is forearmed, as they say......often.

One of the reviews is quite startling:

"Not that easy to read and a little bit hard in some areas (not a novel shall we say). BUT very relevant for 2009. Read it and be astonished at just how little we have learned (or perhaps how much we have forgotten).

I will not be surprised if this book isn't a "Nostradamus" for events that will happen in 2010 onwards.

It all sounds so very familiar. We have been here before people - read this book and you will see why and how."

10 years on and....
