I made the mistake that the fuel cap was polished but after putting auto solve on it and taking off some of the paint work I found that it wasn?t.
And after only ten minutes with the polishing mop it came up like this.
Just need to get some fine paste to finish it.

Hi
(realise its a old post..) Looks good.
I got carried away with the autosol and thought I would have a go at polishing my fuel cap also.
Although think may have made a rookie mistake, dark mark on section of cap I have used autosol, I began wondering if the cap is lacquered or something instead of straight metal and I have started to rub of the lacquer..?:crybaby2:
Looking at the picture should I just carry on with the autosol or stop incase I make bigger mess and have to replace cap or get it relacquered?
My bike is a 2007 so is the finish on the cap for some years different to others, ie lacquered or un lacquered?
Thanks for any help

Yes..it is coated... Just using Autosol I suspect you are gonna runout of polishing digits or the will to live !

Perhaps start with wire wool ?
It will still be hard work but you stand a chance at least :)

A medium surface prep wheel removes the coating & leaves a good clean finish, then you can polish it up pretty easily ;)

Polishing......thin end of the wedge in my book..Once you start you rapidly become
obsessed and endlessley chase perfection ....bit like golf......
Worst case you may end up buying a Harley.....Leave it painted and relax ,,:zplayita:

You're right Eddy. It's a bike. Ride it and hose it down if it has been raining. I bought a bike with polished wheels. I flogged it quickly!
